Development:
Jake’s Journey
Chepstow Plant International is proud to celebrate the progression of Jake Walker, one of our apprentices, whose training journey has been recognised nationally by Tarmac and featured in sector media.
Through the National Skills & Safety Park in Nottinghamshire and the Professional Operator Development Programme (PODP), Jake honed his skills and confidence in real-world quarry scenarios, guided by coaches who understand the pressures of live sites.
As Tarmac highlighted, his story demonstrates the impact of aligned employer support and industry collaboration on a clear development pathway.
Agg-Net added further context: Jake began the programme with minimal qualifications and rapidly progressed through structured training and on-the-job mentoring, showcasing the value of facilities that replicate actual site conditions. “I’ve become more confident… it’s really changed my life,” he said, words that resonate with many early-career colleagues.
The principle is simple: capable, confident people make sites safer and more productive.
For clients, this means teams trained to industry standards before they even reach your gate. For prospective recruits, it’s a chance to develop on current-generation kit, with support that is practical, not performative.
We will continue to work with partners such as Tarmac, Minerals Matter, and OEMs to ensure training keeps pace with technological advances, including autonomy, electrification, and advanced telematics so the next generation is ready for the future, not just the present.
This approach strengthens our talent pipeline and, ultimately, the wider industry.
